iOS 14 Tip: How To Create A Widget Stack For Your iPhone
KEY POINTS
- Apple announced iOS 14 last month
- The new iOS version allows widgets to be placed on the Home Screen
- iOS 14 also allows widgets to be stacked on top of each other
Apple introduced Home Screen widgets in iOS 14. These widgets allow users to see relevant information at a glance, helping them become more productive with less taps and swipes on the iPhone screen.
While widgets were previously limited to Today View, iOS 14 allows them be placed in the Home Screen, with the added option of being stacked on top of each other for a more streamlined iPhone Home Screen.
Stacking widgets together allows users to choose which widget to put in the foreground to be quickly seen at a glance. It also allows users to have other widgets at the ready for when they are needed.
It's easy to create a widget stack in iOS 14, MacRumors noted. Here's how.
- First, users should press and hold on a blank area of the Home Screen, or any app page, on an iPhone running iOS 14. This will cause the icons to jiggle (a state known as jiggle mode).
- Second, once in jiggle mode, users should tap the plus (“+”) button located at the top-left corner of the screen.
- Third, users will need to scroll through the widgets card and choose a widget they want added to the widget stack, tap on it and drag it to the Home Screen.
- Fourth, after that, users should tap on the plus (“+”) button again, select another widget to add to the widget stack, then drag it on top of the stack that was added to the Home Screen. Users can do this as many times as they need to add as many widgets as they want to the stack.
- Fifth, when done, users should tap on Done in the top-right corner of the screen.
Users should note that widgets included in the same stack should have the same size. Users can scroll through the stack by swiping up and down or set it up so that the iPhone will scroll through them automatically.
Users can also edit the widgets' order of appearance in the stack, or remove unwanted widgets, by long-pressing on the widget stack to be edited, then selecting Edit Stack from a menu that appears. Users can then reorder widgets by dragging the hamburger icon beside them or remove them from the stack by swiping left on the widget then tapping on Delete.
