iOS 5 Untethered Jailbreak: Using Redsn0w 0.9.10b3 Can Cause iBooks to Crash
As a result of the efforts of Pod2g and the iPhone Dev-Team, it is now possible to jailbreak the iPhone 4 and all models of the Phone 3GS untethered. However, those using the latest Redsn0w untethered iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak have been facing an unexpected consequence wherein iBooks cease to work.
The use of Redsn0w to jailbreak is a straightforward process and installs the Cydia app store on the device. There have been a lot of errors associated with jailbreaking the iOS 5.0.1 firmware untethered. In order to fix these errors, the iPhone Dev-Team has released an update, bringing RedSn0w to version 0.9.10b3.
One of the iOS 5.0.1 Untethered Jailbreak errors yet to be fixed is the iBooks crashing error that affects users' ability to launch the iBooks app. iBooks is a free, downloadable app from the App Store. iBooks includes the iBookstore, where you can download the latest best-selling books.
For now, there is a package available in Cydia that may be able to fix the iBooks problem. Some users reported that this fix did not work as expected, though others were able to fix iBooks using a specific procedure.
Many users have concluded that after following the required procedure, iBooks does start to function properly, enabling the user to download books from the iBooks store.
