iOS 6 Release Just Hours Away: Arrival Time And 6 Things You Need To Know Before Upgrading
As announced during the iPhone 5 unveiling event in San Francisco last week, Apple is set to release iOS 6, the latest version of its mobile operating system, Wednesday for all supported devices, including iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 4, iPad 3 and iPad 2.
Although Apple has been seeding developer betas of iOS 6 since June, it will be available for public for the very first time Wednesday. With that in mind, we have already covered what users need to make sure in order to get their devices ready for the iOS 6 upgrade. Here some more tips that users, as well as those waiting for a jailbreak, should remember before going ahead for the iOS 6 upgrade.
1. Get The Device Ready
The very first thing you need to make sure is that your iOS device is all set to embrace the iOS 6 upgrade. You need to get rid of unnecessary contents on your device to have enough free space, back up your device and get the latest version of iTunes (iTunes 10.7) if you plan on syncing your iOS 6 device to your computer. 2. iOS 6 Update Will Come Over-The-Air (OTA)
With the release of iOS 5, Apple introduced new OTA updates, which mean that users can get the latest firmware version without plugging their devices into their computers. Therefore, if you are on iOS 5, you don't need to plug your device in to download and install iOS 6.
If you are not planning to upgrade, make sure that you don't mistakenly agree to the iOS 6 install.
3. There Could Be Server Issues Or Delays
Once Apple releases the iOS 6 updates, there are possibilities of traffic issues due to the rush to download new versions of OS. If you come across such errors, it's better to have patience and wait for issues to get settled their own.
4. Don't Get Offended By Some Buggy Apps
According to The Next Web, Apple is readying the App Store fast to get apps updated for the new taller iPhone 5 and iOS 6.
"We've been getting reports from developers that Apple is pushing review through its system at a rapid pace. App submissions are normally reviewed over a matter of days, but some are seeing times as quick as a few hours," TNW reported.
However, that doesn't necessarily mean that all your apps will be working immediately after you upgrade to the latest firmware. That said, there are chances of incompatibility issues and errors, which you'll have to tolerate until they get updated.
5. Power Back Up
Before you go for the upgrade, make sure that you have a power source ready at hand. If the device runs out of charge while updating, there could possibly be a big problem.
6. Save SHSH Blobs
Now, this is for all those who have a jailbroken device and are planning to enjoy all the goodness of a future iOS 6 jailbreak. Save your SHSH blobs (Signature HaSH blobs) as it will help you downgrade to iOS 5.1.1 after Apple stops signing it. For more details, click here.
iOS 6 Arrival Time
Apple is expected to release the iOS 6 update at 10 a.m. PST (1 p.m. EST) Wednesday. This is the time the company released the iOS 5 update last year and iOS 4 update the year before. For the full iOS download worldwide times, click here.
