iPhone 11 Features: New Apple Phones Will Have Matte Backs, ‘Rainbow’ Shimmer

A new leak reveals a few more things that might heighten or lower public interest in this year’s upcoming iPhones.

YouTuber EverythingApplePro and XDA Developers’ Max Weinbach have teamed up to reveal a few more specs and features that Apple’s upcoming iPhone 11 lineup are expected to have.

First, the iPhones are expected to come with bigger base storage. Instead of coming with a base 64GB storage size like last year’s iPhone XR, XS and XS Max, this year’s Apple-branded smartphones will have a base 128GB storage, followed by 256GB and maxing at 512GB storage configurations.

While the upcoming iPhones’ base storage size is still is smaller compared to the base 256GB storage size offered by Samsung’s recently released Note 10 series, the YouTuber noted that it’s still bigger than the sizes offered by older iPhones. “Apple’s never really been about value,” he said.

Second, the Cupertino tech giant is expected to put a “rainbow” design on certain devices including the iPhone 11 lineup. Weinbach said this is in line with rumors, but it won’t be what people are expecting to see.

The iPhones won’t feature a rainbow-colored “Apple” logo at the back (like some old Apple-branded devices have in years past), but will feature a “coating” that will give the new handsets an appearance similar to the “shimmer” look on the Galaxy Note 10 series. It will have a “silver aura with rainbow elements” that can be seen only by moving the iPhone.

Third, this year’s iPhones will feature a matte back that will feel very different compared to the existing iPhones in the market today. This is in line with previous reports citing industry sources and noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who also said the 2019 iPhones will have “frosted glass casing.”

Other details

The leakers also gave a few more details related to the devices. They added that the gold coloring used on this year’s premium iPhone model, the iPhone 11 Pro, will be slightly different. Whether it looks similar to the soft gold color used on the iPhone 8 remains to be seen. The upcoming iPhones will also ditch the “iPhone” branding.

These details remain unconfirmed at the moment since Cupertino hasn’t revealed the devices yet. Apple is expected to announce this year’s iPhones on Sept. 10. Until then, it’s best to take it all with a grain of salt.
