This year might not be good for Apple’s upcoming iPhone 11 as the next iOS smartphone seems to be plagued by negative news, one after another.

Aside from the general sentiment that Apple’s next smartphone is “ugly,” no thanks to the supposed large square hump at the back that will house the iPhone’s triple camera, some reports are also saying that the Cupertino giant will be “downgrading” some high-tech functions of their flagship phones.

According to TechRadar, Apple might actually be ditching the comprehensive 3D touch feature which was first introduced in the iPhone 6S back in 2015. The company will then replace it with a cheaper version that’s found in the current iPhone XR.

The 3D Touch Technology allowed users to have a dynamic way to interact with their smartphones by recognizing three levels of pressure on the phone which corresponds to specific functions. The alternative, on the other hand, is Haptic Touch technology which is not pressure-sensitive. This means users would have to press on the screen longer to activate certain functions. This option could delay the use of some of the iPhone’s features.

According to the report, British financial analyst Barclays claimed that the Cupertino company will ditch the 3D Touch for the upcoming 2019 iPhone models. The report was first released via MacRumors and the information apparently came from one of Apple’s major suppliers in Asia.

What’s interesting is that some analysts claim this is not really a big loss for Apple as most users are not even aware that the 3D Touch Technology is actually available in their smartphones. However, removing this function could mean that the flagship phones won’t fare much better than the more affordable iPhone XR model so there’s going to be conflict on which model to choose.

Apple’s next line of iPhones is unofficially labeled iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Max and the cheaper iPhone XR2. Aside from the triple camera render that is expected to be present in the 11 models, some reports are also saying that the new phones will have an all-glass back.

Some render courtesy of prominent Apple analyst Stever Hemmerstoffer (OnLeaks) and CashKaro.com show a single sheet of glass that covers the entire back of the iPhone and extends toward the sides and even on top of the triple camera. If reports are true then this could signify wireless charging capabilities for the new phones.
