KEY POINTS
- The iPhone 12 Pro is perfect for those who need the best in mobile photography and videography
- The iPhone 12 is a good option for those who don't really need all the camera features of iPhone 12 Pro
- Both devices have the same processor and battery life
Apple has launched the new iPhone 12 series and is already accepting preorders for the iPhone 12 and the iPhone 12 Pro.
For those who are having a hard time deciding on which one to get, here's a quick look at some of the things to consider when choosing between the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro.
Similar features
First, consumers should consider that the two devices have many similarities in terms of specs and features.
- Processor
Both are powered by Apple's new A14 Bionic processor, which is the fastest and most powerful chip that the company currently has. This means both devices offer the same processing power and offer support for 5G.
- Display
Both devices feature a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display, have the same notch size for the TrueDepth camera and have the same bezel sizes. They look very identical.
- Battery life
Both devices have enough battery power for 17 hours of video playback on a single charge. Apple didn't reveal the exact battery size but claimed they have the same battery life.
Different features
While both devices offer many similarities, they also differ in some key aspects. This is what potential buyers should look at:
- Camera features
The iPhone 12 Pro is obviously designed for those who want to take their mobile photography and videography to another level. It has a triple-camera setup and also features the LiDAR scanner for AR functions as well as improved nighttime photography.
The device also offers a new format called “Apple Pro RAW,” which combines Apple's computational photography features and the benefits of RAW.
The iPhone 12, on the other hand, only features a dual-camera setup. It's not as great as the Pro model in photography, but it will be enough for regular needs.
- Added RAM
The iPhone 12 has 4GB of RAM. The iPhone 12 Pro, on the other hand, has 6GB of RAM, which translates to better multitasking capabilities.
- Brighter display
The iPhone 12 Pro has a slightly brighter display than the iPhone 12 at a maximum 800 nits versus 625 nits. This will prove helpful for those who edit videos and photos on the go.
- Pricing
The iPhone 12 sells for $799 for the 64GB model, $849 for the 128GB model, and $949 for the 256GB model. The higher-end iPhone 12 Pro, on the other hand, sells for $999 for the 128GB model, $1,099 for the 256GB model and $1,299 for the 512GB model.
