iPhone 13 Leak: Apple To Release 5G Model With Smaller Notch, Improved Cameras
KEY POINTS
- iPhone 13 Pro will come with increased height notch and reduced width
- The front-facing camera will be moved to the left
- Apple frees up spaces in iPhone 13 Pro to give way for larger batteries
The latest leak about iPhone 13 Pro hinted Apple’s next 5G models will come with a smaller notch, improved cameras and a repositioned earpiece.
Photos of a dummy unit, leaked on Japanese website Mac Otakara, hinted the upcoming iPhone 13 Pro could come with a smaller notch compared to the iPhone 12 Pro [Google Translation showed]. The leak showed Apple’s next release will feature a 5.45 mm tall and 2.68 mm wide notch.
Compared to its predecessor with 5.3 mm height and 34.83 mm width, iPhone 13 Pro will come with a narrower yet taller notch. MacRumors suggested the change could be due to the new earpiece location. Apple will reportedly reposition the earpiece within the screen bezel on the top of the device’s notch.
Since Apple is upgrading to heavier tasks such as 5G and Rapid Refresh rates, the demand for batteries have increased. The tech giant reduced the spaces for several parts such as cameras and earpieces to give way for larger batteries, Phone Arena quoted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo as saying.
The leaks also suggested Apple will likely move the front-facing camera to the left side from its current right-side location. iPhone 13 ultra-wide camera will have an f/1.8 aperture compared to f/2.4 on iPhone 12 series. This means the upcoming device will provide better shots even at low-light scenarios.
The 2021 iPhone lineup will feature a ProMotion 120Hz display. The Pro series will come with an LTPO screen that would provide a faster refresh rate based on demand. This saves battery life because the screen will provide lower refresh rates for static contents such as text or emails.
Reports said the dummy units could be from the supply chain that often receives a copy of the upcoming iPhone schematics ahead of launch. They receive the copies earlier than the scheduled iPhone release for advance planning and production of accessories such as screen protectors and cases, Phone Arena reported.
The highly anticipated iPhone 13 Pro will be powered by the faster 5 mm A15 Bionic chipset and will come in more colors such as matte black. Its launch could push through in September if Apple will follow its annual release date.
