iPhone 8: Videos Show How To Set Up Face ID Feature

The iOS 11 Gold Master leak revealed the Face ID feature on the upcoming iPhone, which is expected to be called the iPhone X.

iOS developer Guilherme Rambo demonstrated in a series of Twitter postings how the interface of the new feature will look when you set it up.

How To Set Up Face ID on IPhone

The setup will be in Settings under Face ID & Passcode, the video shows. You can then choose Enroll Face to start the authentication process. The screen then shows a black screen with a square face in the middle and instructs you to “gently move your head” so the iPhone can recognize all your face features. After you read the instructions you can press Get Started to begin. You start off by positioning their face in front of the camera first and will then gently move your head to complete the circle on the screen. Once done, the iPhone will then display “First Face ID scan complete” on the screen and the option Continue.

Another video tweeted by Rambo shows borders lighting up, an animation and a smiley face after the device recognizes the user’s face.

It also lists options to use Face ID for, like unlocking the device, purchases on iTunes and the App Store and Safari Autofill.

Rambo notes that the timing in the video isn’t accurate, but it does show how the Face ID process will work.

Status Bar

The upcoming iPhone is expected to sport an OLED edge-to-edge screen. To make room for the display, the device will feature a notch on the top. The status bar will have the carrier and signal strength on the top-right side of the device, while the time will be displayed on the left side of the notch.

Rambo released a short clip of a new activity indicator that pops up on the left-side of the notch when a video is loading.

There’s also a short animation for when an iPhone is connected to a charger.

Tweets by developer Steve Troughton-Smith shows how the top of the screen will display an incoming call. When users are on a call and outside the Phone app, the current iPhones show a green highlight banner with the time on a call across the top of the screen. Since the new iPhone will have a notch, the status bar will display the time in green (or red when screen recording is on) on the left-top side of the screen.

The iPhone X is expected to be revealed September 12 alongside two LCD models, which could be called iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. The OLED device is expected to cost more than $1,000, Goldman Sachs analysts said earlier this year.

Apple is also expected to release iOS 11 shortly after the press event next week.
