Since the release of the first iPhone much has changed as Apple added innovative features like the Touch ID and Siri. It also paved way for new Apple products, like the iPad, HomePod and Apple Watch.
Here’s how the iPhone has evolved over the past decade:
The first iPhone was revealed as a three-in-one device (phone, iPod and internet).
In 2008, Apple revealed the iPhone 3G, with 3G networking. The company lowered the price of the iPhone, starting at $199 for the 8GB model. The iPhone 3G also debuted the App Store, which allowed users to download third-party apps.
Apple launched the iPhone 3GS in 2009 with a longer battery life and a boost in speed and performance, making it up to twice as fast as iPhone 3G. The iPhone 3GS came with a 3 megapixel autofocus camera for video recording and introduced its cut, copy and paste tool.
Apple called the iPhone 4 the “thinnest smartphone ever.” The device’s design differed from previous models as it featured a flatter look rather than the previous rounder versions. The company also integrated a front-facing camera for FaceTime.

Apple introduced the iPhone 4S, which looked similar to the iPhone 4, in 2011 along with iCloud. The device also brought one of the iPhone’s biggest features: Siri.
Apple launched the iPhone 5 in 2012, switching to its lightning connector. The device also came with a new FaceTime HD front facing camera and improvements to Siri.
In 2013 Apple launched the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C. The iPhone 5C came with a plastic rear and in different colors.
The iPhone 5S came with an optional gold color. Most importantly, the iPhone 5S introduced the Touch ID.
In 2014, Apple announced the iPhone 6 and a larger alternative to that smartphone: the iPhone 6 Plus. The devices came with Retina HD displays, A8 chips, better cameras and Apple Pay.
Apple launched the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus with 3D Touch in 2015. The devices were the first to be offered in a Rose Gold finish and introduced Live Photos and 4K video recording.
Last year, Apple launched the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus with its much-anticipated waterproof feature. The larger device introduced a horizontal dual-camera system for better photos and longer battery life.
Apple released a red version of the iPhone 7 iPhone 7S Plus in the spring to help combat HIV/AIDS.
