From 'The Irishman' To Antonio Banderas: The Winners Of NYFCC Awards
After being adjudged the best movie of the year by the National Board of Review (NBR), “The Irishman” has created quite a strong buzz for the Oscars by taking one more accolade in its briefcase.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Martin Scorsese’s latest film for Netflix has been named the Best Movie of the Year by the New York Film Critics Circle. Joe Pesci, who portrayed the character of Russell Bufalino in the movie, was chosen as the Best Supporting Actor.
In 2018, the NYFCC chose Alfonso Cuaron’s “Roma” as the Best Picture and Cuaron also won the Best Director trophy.
Previously, “The Irishman” was named the best movie of the year by NBR for representing the “best” in what cinema can be and it was also recognized as one of the best movies of the year by the American Film Institute (AFI).
The movie has been labeled as a "masterpiece" by critics and received stellar reviews. It currently has a score of 96 percent on review site Rotten Tomatoes.
On the other hand, Antonio Banderas was named Best Actor for his work in “Pain And Glory,” and Lupita Nyong’O was given the award of Best Actress for “Us.” The critics group chose Benny and Josh Safdie as Best Director for their movie “Uncut Gems,” starring Adam Sandler as the lead.
Quentin Tarantino, who was named the best director by NBR for “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood,” received the Best Screenplay honor for the movie. Meanwhile, Laura Dern was announced as the Best Supporting Actress for her stellar work in Noah Baumbach’s “Marriage Story” and Greta Gerwig’s “Little Women.”
“Parasite” was named the Best Foreign-Language Film, while “I Lost My Body” was named the Best Animated Film.
