‘Iron Fist’ Star Finn Jones Teases Typhoid Mary, Davos’ Villainous Plans
Danny Rand destroyed the Hand, but that doesn’t mean he’s short on enemies in “Iron Fist” Season 2. Finn Jones told International Business Times that his Marvel superhero has to face two major villains in the new season of the Netflix drama, which releases Friday.
Fans of the Marvel comic books are excited that Mary Walker (Alice Eve), better known as Typhoid Mary, will be included in the show. “I can’t really say too much about her because her character is a mystery, but she has two different personalities,” Jones teased to IBT. “She’s definitely around to kind of screw with Danny’s life and make things difficult.”
However, it’ll take Danny a little while to figure out that Mary is an enemy. Danny thinks she just needs a friend.
“The first time that Mary comes into the scene, she is new to New York. She’s lost. She’s a little bit vulnerable, and Danny just helps her out,” Jones revealed. “Danny just sees someone that’s a little bit lost and — because Danny in the first season was also lost and he was a fish out of water and new to the city — he sees someone in a relatable experience that he was [once in]. And he just wants to help her out. He just wants to be like a decent guy in the neighborhood and just try and make her feel a little bit welcome.”
Fans already met one of the villains last year on the Netflix superhero show. Davos (Sacha Dhawan) came to New York to get Iron Fist to resume his position as the guard of K’un-Lun, but Danny refused. When he finally returned, the sacred place had been destroyed. Last season ended with Davos offering to help Joy (Jessica Stroup) take Danny down. “They are almost brothers, [but] Davos has turned on Danny, has grown resentful of him, and his resentment has kind of gone into this kind of maniacal sense of destruction,” Jones told IBT.
Danny won’t be totally without empathy for his former friend. “I think, you know, on one half, [Danny] is upset. It’s his brother. But on the other half, he understands why Davos is behaving the way he is behaving and Danny is at fault as well,” Jones explained. “It’s not so black and white. It’s a complex situation. But I think the most important thing for Danny is to try and get Davos back to who he is. Davos has kind of gone off the rails. He’s not behaving like himself. He’s become maniacal. He’s become unreasonable, and Danny is on a mission to try and bring Davos back into himself and see sense.”
It’s not just villains that Iron Fist has to deal with, though. After taking a step back from the Rand Corporation, Danny is working for a moving company to get to know his community better. He’s running on barely any sleep because he is also patrolling the streets every night to protect the city. Plus, he just moved in with girlfriend Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick).
“He’s pushing himself too hard,” Jones noted. “He’s kind of taken off more than he can chew, and he’s kind of running himself and his relationship into the ground.”
Don’t worry too much, Danny/Jessica shippers. Jones promised that the hiccups in the romance are pretty normal.
“You know, Danny and Colleen, they’re a unit. They are two sides of the same coin, but there is a few tensions along the way,” he warned. “It’s kind of nice to see that because, like most real, authentic relationships, that’s what happens. It’s give and take, it’s push and pull, and Danny and Colleen are no different this season.”
See all the drama unfold when “Iron Fist” Season 2 is released Friday at 3 a.m. EDT on Netflix.
