Ivanka Trump, daughter of former President Donald Trump, revealed that her father and former Vice President Mike Pence engaged in a heated conversation hours before a mob stormed the Capitol in 2021, according to a pre-recorded testimony.
The House Select Committee, who is responsible for investigating the events that led to the Capitol riot, on Thursday released new testimonies from Ivanka as well as other officials who were in the Oval Office on the day Trump allegedly called Pence a “wimp” and a “p*ssy” for not rejecting the electoral votes and declaring him the winner of the 2020 elections. The phone call reportedly happened during the early hours of Jan. 6, 2021.
“The conversation was pretty heated,” Ivanka said. “It was a different tone than I’d heard him take with the vice president before.”
“I remember hearing the word ‘wimp.’ Either he called him a wimp, I don’t remember, he said ‘you are a wimp, you’ll be a wimp’ – wimp is the word I remember,” former Trump assistant Nicholas Luna said in his testimony.
Julie Radford, a former chief of staff to Ivanka, also told the committee that the former First Daughter said she heard her father call Pence “the P-word.”
The testimonies were unveiled in the House Select Committee’s third public hearing. The panel also laid out evidence of how Trump posted a tweet condemning Pence for failing to overturn the election results despite knowing that a mob of rioters had stormed the Capitol while the vice president and his family were inside. The rioters were about 40 feet away from Pence, his wife Karen, his brother Rep. Greg Pence, R-IN, and his daughter.
The panel also cited a court filing wherein an informant from the far-right group Proud Boys told FBI officers that they would have killed the vice president and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi if they were given the chance.
The House Select Committee is expected to hold three more public hearings in the month of July. The fourth hearing has been scheduled for Tuesday, June 21, at 1 p.m. ET. It is unclear what the panel plans to present at next week’s hearing, nor when the committee will hold the session originally planned for Wednesday, which will focus on the pressure against officials from the Department of Justice.
