Rapstar Ja Rule has been sentenced to 28 months in prison for not filing tax returns for over 3 years. Jar Rule, real name Jeffrey Atkins, now owes over $1 million according to Federal Prosecutors and will begin serving his term in New York.
His success began with the hit record Venni Vetti Vecci in 1999. From there Ja Rule earned multi platinum sales and became a leading figure in the rap industry.
Other legal troubles that Ja Rule was involved in were unlawful possession of a firearm, drug possession, assault, driving with a suspended license, and resisting arrest.

Shyne, real name Moshe Levi Ben-David, was an upcoming rap star until a night club shooting incident left three people injured. The rapper shot a man in the face but said he did it in self defense. Shyne was sentenced to 10 years in prison on two counts of assault, reckless endangerment and gun possession. Sean P.Diddy Combs was acquitted on any charges as he was present during the firing melee.

Rapper Da Brat, real name Shawntae Harris, was the first female rapper to hold a platinum selling record. She served a 3 year prison sentence for assaulting a woman in a night club with a rum bottle. The bottle smashed and cut the woman’s face after an altercation with Harris. Harris was also involved in an earlier assault case where she physically beat a woman with a gun. The charge was later reduced to reckless conduct.
