Jacob Sartorius Previews His New Music, Gives Advice For Breaking Into Entertainment
Jacob Sartorius has amassed quite the online following after first posting videos to the now-defunct social site Vine in 2014 and, more recently, releasing videos on social app musical.ly.
The online personality began uploading videos of himself lip-syncing to musical.ly towards the end of 2014 and quickly found himself becoming one of the app’s top stars, with millions of followers to his name.
Now, Sartorius has been switching out some of the lip-syncing videos for his own original music, which started with his first single, “Sweatshirt,” in 2016. He had a few more singles before releasing his first EP, “The Last Text EP,” in January of this year and then his latest EP, “Left Me Hanging’,” in October.
Though, it’s only been a month since his latest release, the 15-year-old singer is getting ready to share new music.
The star hit the HALO Awards orange carpet in New York City on Nov. 4 and International Business Times was there to chat with him all about his new songs and the advice he has for fans looking to breaking into the entertainment industry.
Sartorius explained that he “didn’t really think [getting famous] was going to happen right away, but it happened so fast” and now he’s using that newfound fame from the various social platforms to be able to put out the music he wants to be heard.
“I think this year will be a big one,” he told IBT of his musical journey.
He revealed that he has some “crazy stuff” in the works and was just in the studio the day before the event, working on new songs.
“Just please give me a chance this year,” he asked of his fans and followers.
One of the aspects of the music process that Sartorius enjoys the most is songwriting. He draws from “relationships with girls” and the feeling of “being tired” as inspiration for his projects.
On Saturday, a week after the event, Sartorius teased on Twitter that a new song is on its way and followed up the announcement by letting fans know just how powerful music is to him. “Music is so important to me,” he tweeted. “It’s helped me through the hardest times. Now my goal is to help others through my music.”
Aside from helping others through his songs, Sartorius also wanted to help others reach their dreams with a little advice.
“If you have a dream, go for it,” he told IBT. “There’s gonna be people that tell you you can’t do it, but it’s ‘cause they probably want to do it. I think anybody can do it. If you dream it, you can do it.”
Watch the HALO Awards when it air on Nickelodeon on Sunday, Nov. 26, at 7 p.m. EST.
