Jaden Smith Addresses Sofia Richie Dating Rumors After Flirty Beach Outing

Jaden Smith has responded to rumors that he's dating Sofia Richie after they were spotted getting flirty during a beach outing in Los Angeles.

Photos recently surfaced of Smith and Richie getting touchy-feely, holding hands and hugging at a Malibu beach over the Labor Day weekend. However, in an interview on iHeartRadio’s "On-Air With Ryan Seacrest" on Friday, Sept. 11, Smith downplayed the dating rumors and said they were just friends.

"You know, I actually don’t look at the internet, so I didn’t see that. Me and Sofia have been friends for like 10 years," Smith said. "We’ve been going to the beach pretty consistently for 10 years too. Yeah, we’re just homies and we love each other and it was fun."

Though they may not be in a relationship at the moment, Smith and Richie did briefly date in 2012.

But rumors of their romance were revived once more following their recent outing, where the two were apparently being very intimate.

"They spent the afternoon playing on the beach together with friends. But Sofia and Jaden only had eyes for each other," an insider told E! News.

"They swam in the water together and wrapped their arms around each other," the source continued. "They held hands as they went in and out of the water and then they pulled each other in for a hug.”

Meanwhile, another source who spoke with People said the pair "loved hanging out." The tipster also confirmed that while Richie hasn't been dating anyone new since her split from Scott Disick, her connection with Smith appeared to be different from her flirtation with other guys.

"There have been guys around that she acted flirty with, but she doesn't seem to be dating," the source said. "The vibe was different over the weekend though when she hung out with Jaden. They spent hours together on the beach. They kept flirting and hugging. Sofia looked very happy.”

Smith and Richie's beach sighting came after she and Disick put an end to their three-year relationship and split up for good in May. According to an insider, the exes had an on-again, off-again relationship for two months before their permanent breakup, though there was no "fight" between them.

"Sofia thinks Scott has a lot on his plate right now and thinks it's best for them to be apart so he can focus on himself," the source told E! News. "She is only looking out for him and his best interest and it was primarily her decision for them to split. Sofia has been spending time with her family and has taken majority of her stuff out of Scott's house."
