Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho joined Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in recording an incredible feat.
Not all soccer greats can be a creator and a goal scorer at the same time. It is one of the notable skills only the likes of Messi and Ronaldo were able to perform with consistency. However, a promising youngster Sancho recently proved that as early as now, his name could be put in the same footing as “Leo” and “CR7.”
According to rare stat compiled by Opta (via Squawka Football), Sancho has become the latest addition to the list of players who has scored 15+ goals and 15+ assists since 2006. The only 4 other player who were able to do it prior were Messi, Ronaldo, Luis Suarez and Eden Hazard.
To put this into context, Sancho was the youngest player in the said list. The magnificent Barcelona superstar Messi is at the top spot, managing to accomplish the feat on 4 separate occasions – 2010-11, 2011-12, 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons. Hazard comes next who did it twice since 2011 while Ronaldo and Suarez both completed it at least once.
Sancho on the other hand, who was signed by Borussia Dortmund in 2016 has managed to score 17 goals and 17 assists in just 27 Bundesliga games in 2019-20 season. What’s even more impressive was that Sancho was the youngest to achieve the said feat at 20 years old.
In Bundesliga, the season resumes with Sancho included among the league’s best goal scorers. He has returned on the pitch as the third highest goal scorer this season. Thus far, Sancho has already scored 14 goals in 23 games. He is currently averaging a goal every 129 minutes.
Another notable fact is that only Bayern’s Robert Lewandowski and RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner have scored more than Sancho this season with 25 and 21 goals respectively.
The Dortmund star’s tally of 15 club assists also put him second in the Bundesliga’s standings with an average of 1 assist every 120 minutes of soccer. Sancho’s impeccable season so far puts him third in the assist rankings across Europe’s top five leagues, just one behind Man City’s Kevin De Bruyne and Bayern Munich’s Thomas Müller.
It is no surprise that Sancho’s name is now frequently being mentioned alongside Messi and Ronaldo. In fact, Manchester United have been open to hand the iconic “no. 7,” made famous by Ronaldo, over to Sancho.
