Jadon Sancho To Stay With Borussia Dortmund, Says Sporting Director
KEY POINTS
- Jadon Sancho is not leaving Borussia Dortmund according to Michael Zorc
- Sancho was reported to have reached a personal agreement with United prior to Zorc's claim
- Zorc's statement is seen as a ploy to force Manchester United into offering more cash for Sancho
Jadon Sancho will stay with Borussia Dortmund according to the German club’s sporting director, Michael Zorc. The statement might have just ended the talks about a blockbuster deal with Manchester United as the team executive insists that the decision to keep the rising footballer is final.
“We are planning with Sancho,” Zorc said, via the Guardian. “He will play for us next season. The decision is definitive. I believe that answers all questions. Already last summer we adjusted the salary according to Jadon’s development and on that occasion, we renewed the contract until 2023.”
Sancho has been linked with a transfer to Man United as the Premier League giants openly tag him as their No.1 transfer target. Previous reports claim the 20-year-old prodigy had already agreed on personal terms that would pay him about $327,000 a week to play as a Red Devil - a significant improvement in compensation from the five-year contract he signed at Dortmund in August 2019.
Some believe, however, that the statement from Zorc is just a ploy from the German side to force United into offering more cash on the table than what they already did. Dortmund is reported to be asking about $24 million more from the English club’s initial bid that is said to be worth nearly $118 million – to be paid in three annual installments – exclusive of about $24 million in performance-based add-ons.
The doubt on Zorc’s latest statement is perhaps induced by his own reputation. After all, the retired German footballer was also the one who denied the sale of Ousmane Dembélé in July 2017 - just a month before the French forward landed in Barcelona.
An August 10 deadline was set by Dortmund to Man United for Sancho, but this is perceived as an artificial due date according to the report.
Should both giant clubs fail to reach a consensus, then Sancho - who appear to be all set for his transfer – would have to place his personal demand on the back burner for now, unless he decides on a forceful exit that could cost him a significant amount in return.
