More and more combat sports legends are raving about Jake and Logan Paul.
While some of the present-day MMA and boxing stars don’t really take the Paul brothers seriously, the old-timers seem to be amused with what they bring to the sport. Among them is former UFC champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.
According to Jackson, he doesn’t really follow Jake and Logan. However, based on what he has seen and heard, the pair is bringing back the excitement in boxing, something that has been gone since Mike Tyson left.
“I don’t think about them, but I think that they are very entertaining,” Jackson recently told South China Morning Post of Jake and Logan. “It seems like they resuscitated boxing.”
“With all due respect to all the boxers even though I’m MMA all day, I represent MMA, and we got a war against boxers right now, I don’t hate boxers or the sport of boxing,” he continued. “I think boxing is a great craft that I’ve been trading for 15 or more years now. Once Mike Tyson left, boxing wasn’t exciting anymore.”
Jackson only likened the Paul brothers to Tyson because of the amount of interest they have been generating in the sport of boxing. In terms of fighting, Jake and Logan have yet to prove that they also have the devastating knockout power of “Iron Mike.”
Interestingly, Tyson himself also shared the same take as Jackson on what Jake and Logan bring to the table.
"I think they're a big shot in the arm for boxing," Tyson told Shannon Sharpe on the "Club Shay Shay" podcast in February. "No boxer's ever brought that many people to the network, like Logan and Jake did. They're bringing money to boxing."
Between the brothers, Jake, the younger sibling, holds a better record in pro boxing. To date, “The Problem Child” is unbeaten, and he has been calling out bigger names in the sport.
Jake’s biggest accomplishment thus far is a KO win over former UFC champion Tyron Woodley. But according to another boxing legend, Oscar De La Hoya, the YouTuber has the potential to beat “great champions” as well.
“A couple of years from now, maybe, I think Jake Paul, the way he keeps proving himself, the way he trains in the gym, cause I hear, I have voices everywhere, I have eyes everywhere, and Jake Paul, he’s working his a— off,” De La Hoya said.
“I dare anyone who has boxing experience, who has MMA experience, to call him [Paul] out because I’ll tell you one thing, this guy can beat a lot of good champions and even maybe great champions,” he added.
