KEY POINTS

  • James Cameron revealed new spoilers for the next "Avatar" sequel
  • The third movie will be narrated by Jake Sully's son, Lo'ak
  • The fourth and fifth films will also feature different narrators

"Avatar 3" will be told through the eyes of Jake Sully's son, Lo'ak, according to creator and director James Cameron.

The 68-year-old filmmaker dropped some spoilers about the next "Avatar" installment in a recent interview on the "Soundtracking With Edith Bowman" podcast.

Cameron said the next three installments in the successful film series will have different narrators. In the third movie, Sully's son Lo'ak will be telling the story from his perspective.

The first two movies — "Avatar" and "Avatar: The Way of Water" — were narrated by Sully, played by Sam Worthington. For the next installment, his son will take the lead.

"Jake was our voiceover narrator for movie one and for movie two, and we have a different narrator for each of the subsequent films," Cameron said, as quoted by Variety.

He continued, "We see it through the eyes of a different character. Movie three is through Lo'ak's eyes."

The hot-headed son of Jake and Neytiri, played by Zoe Saldana, struggled to live up to his older brother Neteyam's reputation. But with the death of Jamie Flatters' character, Lo'ak (Britain Dalton) will be the eldest child in the family in the next film, as per the outlet.

"Avatar 3" is already in post-production, but it remains untitled. Cameron said he's still assessing the responses to the second movie before possibly tinkering with some parts of the next installment.

"I'm going to take a moment when the dust clears to assess what people loved and what they responded to the most in this current release, and then I may go back and tinker a little bit [with 'Avatar 3']," he said.

Last week, Cameron also let it slip in an interview with France's "20 Minutes" that the third film will feature a new tribe of fire Na'vi that will be very different from Sully and his family.

"There will be different cultures from those I have already shown. The fire will be represented by the 'Ash People.' I want to show the Na'vi from another angle because, so far, I have only shown their good sides," the director said at the time.

Cameron's new spoilers came amid the news that "The Way of Water" was already en route the $2 billion mark at the worldwide box office. Once it hits the milestone, it will be hailed as the sixth film to earn $2 billion at the global box office in cinema history.
