James Holmes Situation Behind Bars Reminscient Of The Joker, Jerry Sandusky

The alleged shooter in the Aurora, Colo., massacre, James Holmes, has been placed in solitary confinement at Arapahoe County's detention center, according to multiple news outlets.

The high-profile nature of Holmes' case has naturally attracted the attention of other inmates, some of whom have threatened to kill the suspect, these outlets have reported. Holmes has also been placed under suicide watch, they said.

Let's just say he hasn't shown any remorse, a jail employee told the New York Daily News. He thinks he's acting in a movie.

According to a recently released inmate, He was spitting at the door and spitting at the guards. He's spitting at everything. Dude was acting crazy.

The portrait these witnesses paint appear to jibe with reports about the way James might have perceived himself. He reportedly told the police who arrested him he was The Joker, enemy of Batman and even dyed his hair red before the shooting to emulate the character.

Although The Dark Knight Rises film of 2012 focuses on Batman's battle with a villain named Bane, The Dark Knight movie of 2008 featured scenes with The Joker behind bars. While in jail, The Joker was placed in solitary confinement and was disruptive by harassing guards and other prisoners. The character eventually blew up the jail by sewing an explosive into another inmate and activating it with a cellphone.

Meanwhile, Holmes could also be perceived as disruptive at the Arapahoe detention center. All the inmates were talking about killing him, recently released inmate Wayne Medley told the Daily News. Everyone was looking for an opportunity. It's all they could talk about.

Another recently released inmate told the News that if Holmes were allowed into the general population with the rest of the inmates, then he won't live to see Monday's court appearance.

Holmes could face the death penalty, should he be found mentally competent.

Conditions of Holmes' imprisonment are somewhat similar to those of convicted child molester Jerry Sandusky, a former assistant coach of the football team at Penn State. Sandusky was also placed in solitary confinement because of his status behind bars. And, while on suicide watch, Sandusky was able to hear inmates using the famous Pink Floyd lyric -- Hey! Teacher! Leave them kids alone! -- against him.
