James Hooker, Teacher Who Moved In With 18-Year-Old Jordan Powers, Arrested For Decade Old Sexual Abuse Of Student
At the beginning of the year James Hooker made headlines when the 41-year-old high school teacher left his job and family to move in with 18-year-old Jordan Powers, a former student. The teacher who formally taught business and IT at Enochs High School in Modesto, California was arrested for Friday for sexual abuse of another teen dating back to 1998. Hooker was arrested for investigation of oral copulation with a minor, reported the Associated Press.
In 1998 Hooker had been teaching at Davis High School when his alleged sexual contact with a 17-year-old occurred. With the act occurring a decade ago, Police began their investigation when Hooker and his former student, Powers, announced their relationship in February. The teacher and student maintain that their sexual relationship didn't begin until Power's turned 18-years-old, but police have been investigating their relationship. With Hooker's arrest ending their relationship, the student still denies anything inappropriate happening between them prior to her turning 18.
He called me from jail and yes, I told him that we're done, Powers told ABC News. I lost everything for this guy. I lost my senior year. I gave up all my friends at high school because they didn't agree with me.
Powers believes that the Hooker's 1998 victim came forward to help her see who Hooker really was. My heart dropped. I felt betrayed, said Powers. I just have a gut feeling there are other girls.
Powers told ABC that Hooker acknowledged touching the 1998 victims breasts and legs after she came out of a bathroom naked. He was freaked out so he left and went home. He said nothing else happened, but all of that was a lie.
Hooker's bail has been set at $50,000. A hearing will be held next Tuesday to consider Hooker's request for bail to be reduced.
