Jamie Carragher Says Harry Kane Doesn't Have 'Energy And Pace' Like This $59M Star
KEY POINTS
- Erling Haaland joined Man City in the summer of 2022
- He has netted 10 goals in 7 appearances for City
- Haaland has also netted 2 hat-tricks in the league
Former Liverpool FC defender Jamie Carragher has claimed Harry Kane does not have the 'energy and pace' to hurt players but that may not be the case with Erling Haaland.
Manchester City signed Haaland from Borussia Dortmund for $59 million in the summer of 2022. The Norwegian forward has already wreaked havoc in England by netting 10 goals and assisting with seven appearances for Pep Guardiola's side.
Haaland, who is now on Manchester City's goals sheet in five out of their six games in the 2022-23 Premier League, has two hat-tricks to his name in the blue shirt.
During Manchester City's latest 1-1 draw with Aston Villa, Carragher was on co-commentary while Haaland was the scorer for the touring side.
"Harry Kane's development has just come naturally for him, maybe he didn't have this energy and pace in behind to hurt players. Players only come short when they can't get behind defenses. That's certainly not going to be the case for the next 10 years with Haaland. I think we are going to be seeing something special over the next few years for Man City," Carragher said, according to soccer outlet Teamtalk.
Carragher, who had a 17-year-old soccer career in England, went on to add that the world is going to talk about him [Haaland] a lot in the upcoming years.
"A lot of his goals have been goals that most strikers would score. But some of them have been devastating when you see that power and pace in behind. We're going to talk about him a lot over the years," Carragher said.
Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur forward Kane has netted five goals in six league appearances this season. Spurs and Man City are the only unbeaten sides so far in the Premier League, and Kane and Haaland certainly have been vital for their respective sides.
By scoring in Spurs' latest 2-1 victory over Fulham, Kane surpassed Andy Cole in the list of top scorers in the Premier League. Kane climbed to No. 3 in the list of most goals in the English top-flight, with 188 goals, only behind record-holder Alan Shearer (260 goals) and Wayne Rooney (208 goals).
Even last season, Kane had a fine run with Spurs as he finished with 27 goals in all competitions along with providing 10 assists.
