Jamie Lee Curtis Responds To ‘Scream Queens’ Cancellation, Reveals Red Devil’s Identity In Tweet
Fox has officially canceled “Scream Queens” after two seasons, and the news that the anthology series wouldn’t be returning has led to star Jamie Lee Curtis revealing the answer to one of the show’s biggest mysteries—the identity of the Red Devil.
According to Variety, the anthology horror comedy series from Ryan Murphy wasn’t picked up for a third season, an expected fate for the show after it failed to really find a consistent audience during live viewings throughout its first two seasons. However, the network chairs have revealed that the ratings didn’t actually play into the consideration as much, and the decision to cancel came more from a feeling that the story had ended its run.
“It feels as if it was a complete series,” Gary Newman said in a conference call with reporters. “We have no plans to go back and tell more stories there. We won’t be seeing ‘Scream Queens’ this seasons.”

After the news broke, Curtis, who starred as Cathy Munsch on both seasons of the show, took to Twitter to share a goodbye with fans of the series, but had some more fun with her post by revealing the identity of the show’s eponymous Red Devil character, who was the main villain from season one and made a surprise appearance in the final moments of the season two finale.
In her post, Curtis shared a semi-distorted selfie where she wore glasses and little devil horns on her head, joking that she had been the character all along.
The Red Devil initially wreaked havoc during the show’s premiere season, killing as many people on the campus of the fictional Wallace University as possible that were involved in the Kappa Kappa Tau Sorority. The murders specifically targeted the pledges and current sisters of the sorority, who were collectively known as the Chanels. The murders were later revealed to have been connected to the death of another sister 20 years earlier, after she was left in a bathtub after giving birth to a baby so her sisters could continue partying. At the end of the season, the Red Devil was revealed to have been dually played by Hester (Lea Michele) and Boone (Nick Jonas) as revenge, because their mother was the woman who died in the bathtub. After framing Chanel (Emma Roberts), Chanel #3 (Billie Lourd) and Chanel #5 (Abigail Breslin) for the crimes, the three were sentenced to time in a mental asylum, where the Red Devil was seen once again, holding a knife over Chanel’s head while she slept.

When the second season picked up, the Red Devil was no longer featured, with a new villain known as the Green Meanie. Three different characters were unveiled as that villain, including Wes Garnder (Oliver Hudson), who returned from the first season. However, the other two Green Meanie characters were unmasked as Nurse Hoffel (Kirstie Alley) and Dr. Cassidy Cascade (Taylor Lautner). That season concluded with Chanel once again being accosted by the Red Devil, who is in her car. A ring from the season one sorority is also featured in that shot. However, it was unclear what the return of the Red Devil meant for Chanel. It also raised questions about who could be the character now.
Of course, there’s no guarantee that Curtis’ tweet was confirmation that she had also been a mysterious Red Devil and she was just joking with the fans. If that is the case, then they may never learn just who the new Devil was.
