Jamie Lynn Spears Opens Up About Toxic Relationship With Father, Teenage Pregnancy
Jamie Lynn Spears opens up about her toxic relationship with her father, Jamie Spears, in her upcoming memoir titled "Things I Should Have Said." The book even reveals how "terrible" the tension was between them when he found out she was pregnant with her daughter Maddie Briann Aldridge at the age of 16, according to People.
The actress recalls there was "a whole lot of fighting going on between everyone involved" at that time, adding that "the entire Spears team was already caught up in my sister's PR difficulties, and everyone around me just wanted to make this 'issue' disappear."
"A single day had elapsed before Daddy's anger brought out the sense of dread everyone felt about my situation," Jamie Lynn adds.
She also shares how things went out of control very quickly, noting that her family and her management at that time removed her from the school and took away her smartphone to keep the news from spreading.
The actress further shares she received strict instructions for not sharing "any information with anyone, especially the press."
Jamie Lynn goes on to say she and her father stopped talking to each other and the tension between them became "terrible."
She also reveals her parents wanted her to have the baby aborted. However, after she rejected the idea, the next option presented was for her to go to "Mercy Ministries, a home for unwed mothers in Tennessee" where she "could eventually give up my baby for adoption."
Jamie Lynn then remembers getting into a fight with her father because of this. They were reportedly "slinging words and tossing insults" back then.
"He grabbed me by the shoulders and held on tightly in the hopes of bending me to his will," she narrates. "I got in his face and yelled, 'NO! I won't go.' I couldn't deal with any of them. I ran away from them, panting with rage."
Jamie Lynn also mentions in her book that her family considered her elder sister, Britney Spears, "untrustworthy," considering her "instability at that time." Because of this, they told Jamie Lynn not to tell Britney about the pregnancy.
"I went along with what my team told me to do because I was a minor and didn't want to create any more issues," Jamie Lynn adds. "Britney learned of the pregnancy when the article was released. To this day, the hurt of not being able to tell my sister myself lingers."
Jamie Lynn shares her first daughter Maddie, 13, with ex Casey Aldridge. She has another daughter, Ivey Joan Watson, 3, with her husband Jamie Watson.
Described by its publisher as an "intimate memoir," "Things I Should Have Said" includes more unfiltered stories from Jamie Lynn. It is set for release on Jan. 18, 2022.
On the work front, the actress was last seen in "Sweet Magnolias" in 2020. She will appear in the series' Season 2, which is expected to drop next year.
