Ian Schinelli got candid about why his romance with country singer Jana Kramer ended.
Last month, Schinelli and Kramer's split was reported after less than a year of dating. The "I Got the Boy" songstress confirmed their breakup in a previous interview. But Schinelli felt the need to speak up after reading some inaccurate statements from his ex.
"I walked away from her," the fitness trainer told Us Weekly. "There were certain things that were not good for me. I had talked to a few people and realized that there was just a very strong, anxious attachment she has, and this may be due in part to her ex, which, OK, be that as it may, ... went on for the entire relationship."
Schinelli said that he got into a "breaking point where I just could not handle it." He insisted that he tried hard, but it just didn't work.
"I really do care about her, and I still do, but it got to a point where I had to walk away," he added. "Her patterns [of] toxicity. It's like, I literally cut off fuel in my life to make your life as easy as possible. I didn't ask for anything except for me to go to the gym. … I would try to do as much as possible around the house."
The "Why Ya Wanna" singer has been open about her previous relationships. When she appeared on the "It Sure Is A Beautiful Day" podcast, she spoke about her most recent breakup and said it left her "emotionally exhausted."
"When I truly love myself, I will never settle for things ever again. I give a lot of grace [to] people, and I understand people make mistakes. But there [are] certain boundaries that I've just done such a bad job of sticking to," she said.
The Lifetime actress also seemingly hinted at what went wrong with her and Schinelli when asked about her expectations for her next possible romance.
"I disrespect myself in the process of staying in something that I know that's not what I want out of someone. I don't want to be with someone that just lied to me," she said. "Like, that's not the kind of relationship I want because then all my past triggers come out and I become someone I'm not. That's something that I have to realize too."
Kramer made her relationship with Schinelli Instagram official in January. In an episode of her "Whine Down" podcast, the singer-actress said her friends called him Captain America due to his "nice body," and she thought he had a small penis because "something has to be wrong with him."
In April, she confirmed that they were no longer together. "I am kind of going through [a breakup] right now," she told Access Daily's Kit Hoover and Scott Evans. She added that what she was feeling was "not as bad" as it seemed at the time.
Kramer was previously married to Mike Caussin for six years. She filed for divorce in April 2021, citing "inappropriate marital conduct, irreconcilable differences and adultery" as the reasons for their separation. Their divorce was finalized in July of the same year. The exes share two children, Jolie Rae, 6, and Jace Joseph, 3.
