‘Jane The Virgin’ Season 4 Moved To Friday Time Slot: Find Out Why
When “Jane the Virgin” Season 4 returns to The CW this year, it won’t be on its usual Monday timeslot since the network decided to change its schedule to Friday at 9 p.m.
According to Variety, the series finale of “The Vampire Diaries” this season finally gave way for “Jane the Virgin,” which has been paired up with “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.” The latter series had the 8 p.m. slot.
The CW president Mark Pedowitz said this move expresses their trust and confidence in the show’s success. “We are very fond of the show, we believe in the show, we believe in Gina [Rodriguez] and Jennie [Snyder Urman],” he said in a statement.

He said the Friday slot makes a lot of sense for the show, especially since they are considering both broadcast and delayed viewing numbers. “Next season, we will have our strongest schedule ever, with a broad range of series to appeal to both women and men, across a wide range of demographics,” he added. “And we will continue to provide our advertisers new opportunities to reach our audience, the youngest of any broadcaster, on every platform.”
Given this new move, the show’s lead star cannot help but smile and laugh.
The show is about to make its Season 3 bow next week after a tumultuous and heartbreaking run. In Chapter Fifty-Four, the show killed off one of its most beloved characters, Michael Cordero (Brett Dier), therefore leaving Jane Gloriana Villanueva (Gina Rodriguez) a widow. It was a beautiful episode that conveyed love and loss equally, and the pain of Michael’s death was so heavy that the show featured a three-year time jump in Chapter Fifty-Five.
Jane was still reeling from the loss of her husband then, but slowly and surely, the trauma faded and she was ready to open her heart to someone again. However, executive producer Jennie Snyder Urman said Jane won’t be as idealistic about love this time around.
She earlier told Deadline that Jane will have a couple of suitors in the upcoming episodes, and it’s going to be a lot of fun watching her sort things out romantically. “There is a lot of light and joy that are coming back. There are love interests, but it’s all, ‘how does she move on from all of this?’” Urman explained. “At this point in the story there is no life without Mateo, Jane is a mom, she can’t imagine her life without him. For this character who is such a planner, these curveballs are really important to keep her growing and changing and moving and keep the storytelling not stale.”
One of these suitors is probably going to be the character played by “Teen Wolf” star Tyler Posey. Posey will play Adam, a guy from Jane’s past, and he will first be introduced during the Season 3 finale. He will have a recurring role next season.
For now, “Jane the Virgin” Season 3 airs every Monday at 9 p.m. EDT on The CW.
