Following their first red carpet appearance at the 2014 CMT Music Awards in Nashville on Wednesday night, country singer Jason Aldean and his mistress-turned-girlfriend Brittany Kerr, a former “American Idol” contestant, have been given permission to head to the altar.

According to a report from Radar Online, Aldean, 37, of “Night Train” fame, has been granted approval by one of his 26-year-old girlfriend’s family members to take the plunge.

“He’s so down-to-earth. I approve of it,” Kerr’s grandmother, Louvada Barbee, told the gossip site of the duo’s controversial romance. “I hope everything works out."

Barbee, who has already met the "very nice" country crooner, says she hopes their relationship of three months will result in marriage. “For sure! I hope it will,” Barbee said when asked if she hopes the duo will tie the knot. “If that is what is to happen, then it’s meant to be. Whatever they do is up to them."

For those unfamiliar with Aldean’s relationship history, the singer was still wed to Jessica Ussery, his wife of almost 12 years, when he was photographed kissing Kerr in September 2012. After the PDA image's release, Aldean and Kerr both apologized for their affair.

“The truth is that I screwed up. I had too much to drink. I ultimately ended up embarrassing my family and myself. I’m not perfect and I’m sorry for disappointing you guys,” read Aldean’s statement. Kerr later shared a similar sentiment, calling the incident a “lapse in judgment.”

Despite his public apology, Aldean filed for divorce from Ussery just shy of one year after his indiscretion, citing “irreconcilable differences.” The singer confirmed he was officially dating Kerr in March.

While Kerr’s romance may seem controversial, Barbee claims her granddaughter had nothing to do with the demise of Aldean’s marriage. “It was over a long time before they met,” Barbee said, discounting claims that Kerr was a homewrecker. “He left his wife long before they got together. His left his wife long before she even talked to him.”
