"I Am Jazz" returned for Season 8 Tuesday, and right away fans saw Jazz Jennings' negative experience while using a dating app.
In the season premiere, the 22-year-old trans activist shared a negative comment she received on a dating app with her friends, who also seemed stunned after reading it.
"This is not OK. This person swiped right on me. I have transgender in my profile. ...Why do you have to be cruel? Just be respectful. It just pisses me off," Jazz said in a confessional, as quoted by Entertainment Tonight.
The comment was seemingly so disturbing that the reality series did not disclose what it said. But Jazz's reaction was telling of how vile the statement could be.
Speaking to her friends, Jazz pondered on how someone could be so cruel to other people who are just living their truth. She also acknowledged that her mom Jeanette wouldn't be pleased with her dating app experience if she found out.
"How can you hate on someone for something they can't control? This is who I am as a person," she told her friends in the episode. "[Mom] would not be thrilled. She'd be like, 'I told you. The dating app is dangerous. People are cruel.'"
Earlier this month, Jazz spoke with People about the new season. During the interview, she shared that the reality series will feature the hate directed at her as a transgender woman while attending Harvard University.
"I get death threats almost on a daily basis. People will comment on my photos saying, 'Burn in hell. Kill yourself. You're an abomination,'" she told the outlet.
The reality star then admitted that the threats got serious, so she became scared for her life. She's thankful that her school was protective of her, but the whole situation still upset her.
"But when someone sends a threat to where you live and they know your location, it's a really, really scary feeling knowing that someone is kind of stalking you a little bit and they have these ill intentions," she said.
Jazz continued, "I do feel protected at school. I think they have my back, and they're going to handle any situation. But it is really, really scary. And it's sad that we live in a world where people want to kill others just for being who they are."
Ahead of the show's premiere, a sneak peek into the all-new season released via People showed Jazz locking horns with her mom after the latter got overprotective of her.
"You can't be worried every single time I'm not with you. ... When will the day come when you no longer track me on my phone? Or will you always track me?" an angry Jazz asked Jeanette when the latter crashed her outing with her friends.
Ever since Jazz started attending college, she's been eager to enjoy her independence from her parents. But Jeanette reminded her daughter that "there's just a lot of people out there that don't have respect for transgender people."
"I Am Jazz" Season 8 airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. EST on TLC.
