Jeff Gladney Dies At 25; NFL, Jalen Reagor And Others Mourn Tragic Loss
Football cornerback Jeff Gladney died in a car accident in the wee hours of Monday in Dallas, Texas. He was 25.
According to the Dallas County Sheriff’s office, the accident took place around 2:30 am at Allen Street's Woodall Rogers Freeway. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
"We are asking prayers for the family and privacy at this most difficult time," Gladney's agent Brian Overstreet said, Star Telegram reported.
The professional player also had a female passenger with him - who also died in the accident. The female in the crash has not been identified yet.
NFL took to Twitter following the tragic news and wrote, "The NFL family mourns the tragic loss of Jeff Gladney and we extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones," alongside a black and white photo of the player.
Fans took to the comments section to share their reactions.
"If your organizations had has his back while he was alive, wouldn't have to post condolences today," a user wrote. "Trajectory is a unique concept. If he had not been released everyday of his life would of been on a different trajectory and maybe he would of not been at that place at that time."
"So sorry...seems like you were just getting started young king," a fan commented. Another one wrote, "Damn he was born one year before I graduated high school."
Football wide receiver Jalen Reagor also mourned Gladney's death on Twitter. "Lost my Brother, my best friend, my right hand man… ain’t too much more I can take man damn!" he wrote. "R.I.P Jeff Gladney, brother watch over me please."
Gladney's cousin, Sharonda Francois, spoke with WFAA following the incident and said, "He was very loved by us all. He was an all-around good kid and his contagious smile is what he was known for."
Francois shared that Gladney bought a home for his mother at this age and his son turned one in February.
"He really loved his son, a lot of young guys are really not into being parents--but he really loved him," Francois added. "He hosted football camps, he took care of our kids at family gatherings. I mean money did not change him, he was still the same down to Earth cousin. He was just so well-loved."
