Jeff Wittek Sues David Dobrik For $10 Million Over Injuries From Excavator Accident
Social media influencer Jeff Wittek is suing fellow YouTuber David Dobrik after an excavator stunt went wrong and left him severely injured.
On Wednesday, TMZ reported that Wittek filed a lawsuit that accused Dobrik of causing the 2020 accident, which resulted in Wittek suffering the loss of earning capacity, wage loss, and costly bills. Wittek is seeking $10 million in damages.
In the court documents, Wittek claimed he, Dobrik, and a group of friends took a trip to Utah Lake to shoot a video that was a part of Dobrik’s “social media comeback.”
Wittek stated that the group planned to drive an excavator into the water, where Dobrik would swing people around while they were riding different objects such as wakeboards.
However, Dobrik allegedly suggested members of the group should ditch the objects and only hold on to the rope while being swung in the air by the machine he was operating.
During Wittek’s turn, he claims Dobrik swung him too fast and immediately slowed it down, causing Wittek to swing into the excavator and sustain severe injuries.
Although Wittek didn’t share the extent of his injuries in the lawsuit, he has previously shared details about the accident.
During an episode of his “Jeff FM” podcast in February, Wittek revealed he was still recovering from the excavator stunt and had recently undergone eye surgery.
“It was a gnarly surgery. They had to move my eyeball forward. There was about a 30% chance that I would have woken up blind from the surgery in that eye but fortunately, everything went great,” he said at the time.
Wittek also suffered injuries to his face and skull, tore a ligament in his leg, and broke his foot.
In a March episode of Dobrik’s “VIEWS” podcast, he claimed the idea to swing from the rope was actually Wittek’s idea. Dobrik also called the incident “the biggest regret of my life.”
