- Netizens slammed Pattinson for not working out for his role in "The Batman"
Jeffrey Wright said that Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson’s upcoming “The Batman” is the “next evolution of Gotham.”
Wright will be playing Police Commissioner James Gordon in the Warner Bros. superhero film. On Thursday (May 21), he offered new details about the movie without giving away too much when he appeared on SiriusXM's “The Jess Cagle Show.”
According to him, just like other movies, they are working together to create a mood, idea, setting and tone. He then teased fans by saying that it is the next evolution since 1939 when the Caped Crusader’s story began.
“This is the next evolution of Gotham. So I am working off the stage [director] Matt [Reeves] is providing and also working off what [star] Robert [Pattinson] is doing. We are trying to create something together that is our own, but is also Batman,” Wright said.
To make his point clear, the “Westworld” star cited the Batmobile script. According to Wright, it was exactly what he had in mind.
“I read the script for the Batmobile and I was like, ‘Yeah, that’s it,’” he shared.
“[Bruce Wayne] created the most badass muscle car you could imagine, but it's grounded in Gotham. It's grounded in Americana.”
“The Batman” production had already started, but they were forced to halt due to the coronavirus pandemic. Its release was also pushed back from summer 2021 to October 2021.
Meanwhile, Pattinson is stuck in London after the production on the movie was halted. He is self-isolating with his girlfriend Suki Waterhouse in an apartment provided to him by “The Batman” crew. He confessed during his interview with GQ that he stopped working out amid the lockdown.
“Literally, I’m just barely doing anything,” Pattinson said.
The “Twilight” star’s revelation irked some netizens who felt that he wasn’t preparing well for the role.
“I hope this is a joke. I get that not everyone is peak physical levels but Batman is supposed to be. He’s supposed to be super strong and able to beat the [expletive] out of people because he incessantly works out. Working out and money are his only 2 superpowers,“ @BoofieBois wrote.
“If this is true I’m not thrilled to hear it, Batman is the epitome of peak physical fitness so anyone who has the role needs to respect that. You know what you’re getting yourself into when you go for the part of Batman,” @VillainsOfDC_ opined.
