Jennie Garth Divorce: Peter Facinelli Files Papers, Cites 'Irreconcilable Differences'
Some two weeks after confirming his split from Jennie Garth, Peter Facinelli has officially filed divorce papers at a Los Angeles County Superior Court.
TMZ reports that the 38-year-old Twilight actor filed the papers on Wednesday night, citing irreconcilable differences, with a request to have joint custody of their three young daughters.
The divorce papers were filed on the same day Garth, 39, broke her silence on the split to People magazine.
I was very resistant . . . I didn't want it to happen. It took me some time to come to peace with it, Garth told People, adding that Facinelli first wanted a divorce last fall, after 11 years of marriage.
On Mar. 13, the couple released a joint statement on their split.
While we have decided to end our marriage, we both share the same deep love and devotion to our children. We remain dedicated to raising our beautiful daughters together. We ask for privacy and respect during this time, Garth and Facinelli said.
As soon as the divorce was announced, rumors on Facinelli possibly cheating on Garth hit the airwaves, prompting the couple to release yet another statement. The website Scallywag & Vagabond claimed that Facinelli had been involved in a torrid affair with a woman in her late 20s, while Garth played housewife for as long as she could. The affair allegedly took place in Vancouver, Canada, where Facinelli had been filming The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, the final chapter in the Twilight film series.
There are rumors out there which are completely untrue and hurtful to our family. We just want to make it very clear -- there are no third parties involved, the couple said in a statement.
In her interview with People on Wednesday, Garth revealed that since 2010, her husband had been regularly commuting from Vancouver and New York City to their ranch home in California.
He would do everything he could to fly back every weekend . . . it took a real toll on our marriage, she said.
Garth, who is perhaps best known for her role as Kelly on Beverly Hills, 90210 and playing Amanda Bynes' older sister on the sitcom What I Like About You, is gearing up for a new project, Jennie Garth: A Little Bit Country, a reality show that will premiere on CMT Apr. 20.
I've gone through my darkest parts and I'm coming out of it . . . I'm okay. I don't know what the future holds, but then I've never been a planner. And maybe that's a good thing, Garth told People.
Garth and Facinelli, who first met on the set of a TV movie in 1996, are parents to Luca, 14, Lola, 9 and Fiona, 5. Just four days ago, the entire clan was photographed shopping together in Sherman Oaks, Calif., with Garth and Facinelli awkwardly looking in different directions.
According to TMZ, Garth is expected to legally change her name from Jennifer Facinelli back to Jennifer Garth.
