Jennifer Aniston has revealed what has kept her looking fit and youthful even at age 51.
One of Hollywood’s most sought-after stars is still a head-turner in her 50s. On top of her impressively great genes, Aniston sees to it that she maintains her toned and slim physique in order to look and feel young.
Amid the extensive stream of fitness and health regimes, the “Friends” alum reportedly follows a realistic approach— one that is certainly not for the weak and fainthearted. But while Aniston’s fitness routine may pose as a challenging feat for some, it’s a task that can definitely do the body good, just like the actress’.
In February, Aniston’s personal trainer Leyon Azubuike told Women’s Health what the “Friends” star does to stay in shape and not look “a day over Rachel.” The fitness coach, who also co-owns Gloveworx, shared that Aniston would exercise up to seven days a week for an hour and a half depending on where they are in her training cycle.
"Where we are in a cycle dictates the duration and intensity of Jen’s workout," Azubuike told Women’s Health. "If I know Jen isn’t filming anything, it’s a different phase than if I know she’s going to be walking up to receive an award—I’m not going to destroy her legs in the gym the day before."
Azubuike said that their training would often include a mix of boxing and strength training and “a lot of work with resistance bands.”
“We’re big on resistance bands,” the star’s trainer shared. “We rotate these things so it’s always hard, she’s consistently being challenged—I’m a big fan of switching things up, so the body reacts in a positive way and changes."
But having an acting career like Aniston could also mean a slew of uncontrollable schedules—even her trainer, Azubuike, faces a chaotic timetable. So to make it work, the actress and her fitness coach have no other choice but to jump on any available time just to break a sweat.
Azubuike shared that because of the hectic work schedule, Aniston’s workout sessions can even start at the crack of dawn. For instance, if the actress is scheduled for filming at 3 a.m., her training session would have already started way before that.
According to Azubuike, the 51-year-old star has to respond whenever he says “go.”
Of course, a workout always goes hand in hand with healthy nutrition to satiate the effort. Aniston likes to jumpstart her day on the right note and depends on filling shakes mixed with “some sort of pure protein” along with fresh fruits.
The actress told Well + Good that her fruity protein shakes are often loaded with bananas, blueberries, frozen cherries, stevia, maca powder plus a mix of dynamic vegetables. She also dashes in a little cacao to taste.
More on Aniston’s fitness regimen, the actress told People in 2016 that weight training is something she swears by—the immediate cause of her enviable arms. She shared that whenever she’s at the gym, she makes use of ropes and amps up her workout by playing with her body weight.
The actress also tends to “shake things up” with different routines to challenge her muscles. For her lean and chiseled limbs, Aniston credited “spin-yoga” — a technique which involves 25-30 minutes of spinning and 30-40 minutes of yoga —that she often does three days a week.
Boxing also seems to be the star’s fitness staple which she might not shy away from anytime soon. In 2018, Aniston revealed during an interview with Instyle how she immediately felt drawn to the sport when she took it up in 2017.
For the star, the sport was a vehicle for her to “get aggression out.”
“You get a mental release of all this crap you’re taking into your ears and eyes every day and have little fantasy moments imagining who you’re actually punching,” Aniston shared. “I’m just grateful it’s not actually the person, even though there’s one person. You know what I mean. It’s all good.”
