Jennifer Coolidge Reacts To Fans Campaigning For Her To Host Oscars
Jennifer Coolidge made a memorable speech at the Golden Globes Tuesday. Now, her fans are rallying to make the "Legally Blonde" actress the host of this year's Academy Awards.
The 61-year-old actress took home the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or TV Movie for her work in "The White Lotus." She portrayed Tanya McQuoid in the hit series and also won an Emmy for her role back in September.
In her iconic and emotional speech after the Golden Globes win, she said she was unable to say what she really wanted to say. The actress then turned her attention to series creator Mike White.
"I just want you all to know that I had such big dreams and expectations as a younger person. But what happened was, you know, they get sort of fizzled by life or whatever. I thought I was going to be Queen of Monaco even though someone else did it. I had these giant ideas," she said as the audience broke into laughter.
Coolidge further revealed her dreams changed as she got older. "I just want to say: Mike White, you have given me hope. You've given me a new beginning, even if this is the end, because you did kill me off," she said, alluding to her character's death in the season 2 finale.
"But it doesn't matter because even if this is the end, you sort of changed my life in a million different ways. My neighbors are speaking to me, things like that," she added.
Fans of the actress stormed Twitter, demanding she becomes the host of the Oscars.
"Give Jennifer Coolidge the hosting job for Oscars, NOW," wrote one fan.
"This is a petition to let Jennifer Coolidge host the #oscars next year," another said.
"Ok now can we get jennifer coolidge to host the oscar's or something," one of the Twitter users said while another wrote, "Can Jennifer Coolidge please host the Oscars someday 😆 - I'm not even kidding."
However, the actress doesn't seem much keen on hosting an awards show. In a recent interview with Extra TV regarding the Twitter campaign, she said that would "way too much work."
"I think there would be way too much work. I think it's more fun if you just come out for a little bit," Coolidge said. "I think it's hard to do the hosting thing because you want to say things that are much naughtier and more perverse, and you wanna say those things that might be offensive to somebody. Now, you can be really in trouble for it."
