Jennifer Garner Talks How Media Reports Affect Hollywood Marriages

Jennifer Garner has claimed that media reports affect the lives of celebrities and even their marriages because they tend to become "self-fulfilling prophecy."

Garner appeared on "Tell Me More With Kelly Corrigan" where she got candid about her family life. The "Miracles from Heaven" star briefly talked about her marriage to Ben Affleck and how media reports tend to affect Hollywood marriages.

In the interview, Garner shared that one of her daughters wrote a letter about being scared of being followed by cameras. When asked if that was part of why Hollywood marriages are difficult, she gave a positive response.

"I think there's something about seeing yourselves reflected in news of some kind -- and whether it's true or not," Garner was quoted by Entertainment Tonight as saying.

"If it's true and you are starting to be serious with someone and they start saying, 'Well, when are they gonna be engaged?,' It's almost like you just want to get there so that you can complete that and just maybe it will die down for a second. And then it's immediately, 'Trouble in paradise.' And it becomes almost a self-fulfilling prophecy," she continued.

Garner and Affleck tied the knot in 2005 and announced their split in June 2015. Before their separation, there were already rumors that they were having a marital crisis due to Affleck's alcohol addiction. Their divorce was finalized in November 2018. The exes remain amicable as they co-parent their three children, Violet, 14, Seraphina, 11 and Samuel, 8.

In the same interview, Garner shared how her mom grew up in a poor family on a farm in Oklahoma and praised how she managed to leave the place.

"My mom grew up really poor in Locust Grove, Oklahoma, on a farm. I think my mom was so poor, it's just unbelievable that she managed to leave," Garner said.

"As a matter of fact, when I moved to New York after college, my mom said, 'Jennifer, no matter what you do, it will never be as big of a deal as it was for me to leave that farm.'"

The "Alias" alum had asked her mom if it bothered her that she talked about her growing up poor and the latter assured the actress that it didn't.

"She said, 'I'm never ashamed of growing up poor. Rather, I am amazed by the grace and dignity that my parents had throughout my childhood,'" Garner said before adding that her mom aspired to travel.

"Now she has been to 50 states and to seven continents.”
