Jennifer Grey Says Patrick Swayze Once Apologized To Her In 'Tears' For On-Set Pranks
Patrick Swayze was not always nice to Jennifer Grey, but the actress recalled how he apologized to her for his behavior before the two started filming for the iconic 1987 movie "Dirty Dancing."
Before the two of them starred in the romantic drama, Grey and Swayze — who died in 2009 at the age of 57— appeared onscreen together in the 1984 action film "Red Dawn." Apparently, while shooting for the movie, Grey never really had a good time on the set with her co-star, according to People.
"Patrick was playing pranks on me and everybody," Grey said on "The View" this week while promoting her newly released memoir "Out of the Corner."
"It was just, like, macho, and I just couldn't take it. I was just like, 'Please, this guy, that's enough with him,'" she said.
Because of her previous experience with him, the actress was a little skeptical about working with him in "Dirty Dancing," despite his talent.
But, Grey had a change of heart during their screen test because, for the first time, Swayze took responsibility for his actions and even got emotional while apologizing to her.
"He pulled me down the hall and said to me, 'I love you, I love you, and I'm so sorry. And I know you don't want me to do the movie,' " the actress recalled.
"And he got the tears in his eyes. And I got the tears in my eyes — not for the same reason. I was like, 'Oh, this guy's working me.' And he goes, 'We could kill it — we could kill it if we did this,'" the actress continued.
"We go in there and he takes me in his arms and I was like, 'Oh, boy. I'm done,'" Grey confessed. The chemistry they shared was amazing and that's all that the movie really needed to become a cult favorite.
Grey then couldn't help but admire her late co-star, and the way he carried himself on the set.
"There was no competition. He was, like, the easy chair I'd been dreaming of my whole life," she said.
The "Red Oaks" actress is set to return for a sequel to "Dirty Dancing."
