Jennifer Hudson’s Career Causes Ex To Be Granted Primary Custody Over Son
Jennifer Hudson’s ex-fiancé, David Otunga, has just been granted primary custody over their son, David Jr. The main reason behind this is said to be the Hollywood singer’s busy career nowadays.
On Tuesday, sources familiar with the matter disclosed to TMZ that Otunga, 37, has now become the primary custodial parent of his son with Hudson, 36, albeit temporarily. The former couple apparently reached a temporary custody agreement after factoring in Hudson’s busy schedule with “The Voice UK” and USA’s “The Voice.”
Because Hudson is involved with the two versions of the show, she has to frequently fly from Los Angeles to London and vice versa. Otunga has always been the primary caregiver of the 8-year-old due to Hudson’s commitments as an artist, so there wouldn’t really be much of a change that will come out of this agreement.
The temporary primary custody granted to Otunga is only taking effect for two weeks, specifically from Nov. 26 through Dec. 8, Daily Mail has learned. These are the weeks when Hudson’s work and travel schedule is jam-packed after all.
In the wake of the agreement, Hudson has also decided to drop her protective order from Otunga. As previously reported, the “If This Isn’t Love” songstress sought for legal protection less than two weeks ago, claiming that she’s afraid of her ex’s “increasingly aggressive, threatening and harassing behavior toward me.” Court documents also revealed that Hudson was alarmed by the thought that Otunga could “seek to sequester” their son from her.
The retired wrestler has vehemently denied Hudson’s allegations. Otunga’s lawyer, Tracy M. Rizzo, issued a statement saying, “Mr. Otunga has never abused or harassed Ms. Hudson or their son, and it is unfortunate, especially in today’s climate, that she would feel the need to make these false allegations against him.”
Hudson and the Harvard Law grad got engaged in 2008 after a couple of months of exclusively dating. The pair welcomed their son the year later. They officially called it quits in mid-November after nearly 10 years of being together.
A rep for the “American Idol” alum told Us Weekly in the wake of the highly publicized split that the couple had been pondering on breaking up for months prior the announcement. “They have been in the process of ending their relationship for a number of months,” the rep explained.
