Jennifer Lopez Donates $1M For Hurricane Relief To Puerto Rico
Jennifer Lopez returned to New York City on Sunday to attend a press conference with the city’s governor, Andrew Cuomo.
In the intimate gathering, Lopez announced that she will be donating $1 million from the proceeds of her Las Vegas shows to help those who were affected by the two massive hurricanes in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, according to Entertainment Weekly.
The 48-year-old singer made her donation public via a live-streamed post on her Twitter account. Lopez shared the good news to everyone in both Spanish and English languages. “Alex and I, who are both New Yorkers, are utilizing all our resources and relationships in entertainment, sports and business to garner support for Puerto Rican and Caribbean relief efforts,” she said.
On top of the $1 million donation she will shell out from her Las Vegas earning, the “Shades of Blue” actress also revealed that the MLB have committed to sharing a generous amount for the relief efforts in both areas. Lopez’s ex-husband, Marc Anthony, will also be helping the victims financially.
“I have been moved by the initial responses. They have been overwhelming and no one has said no. Anybody we have called is right there asking what they can do. They’re all very eager to help,” she said. Lopez has also reached out to “Shark Tank” star Mark Cuban and Dallas Mavericks Puerto Rican player J.J. Barea. The two will be sending out their airplanes to transport supplies and generators to Puerto Rico, but are still awaiting air clearance.
A day before returning to New York, Lopez posted a photo of herself during one of her performances in Las Vegas. In her caption, the actress shared that she will be returning to her hometown to engage in some business. It was later on confirmed that the business she was referring to was the press conference.
Last month, Lopez and her boyfriend, Alex Rodriguez, vowed to donate $50,000 each to Red Cross as their way of supporting the Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. The actress made the announcement via her Instagrazm account. She also encouraged everyone to donate any amount to help improve the lives of the victims of the tragedy.
