Jennifer Lopez To Produce CBS Legal Drama ‘Rosarito Beach’ About Latino Stereotypes
Jennifer Lopez’s resume continues to expand! The “Shades of Blue” executive producer will soon be teaming up with CBS for a new legal drama called “Rosarito Beach.”
According to People, the dramedy will shed light on Latino stereotypes and will center on two female attorneys. One of them will open a law firm in San Diego to deal with various types of immigration cases at the border of the United States and Mexico. Lopez will serve as the executive producer for the upcoming one hour TV show.
As of late, it is still unclear whether or not “The Fosters” exec will also be starring in “Rosarito Beach.” Last year, Lopez told Deadline that she wasn’t supposed to star in NBC’s “Shades of Blue.” Instead, she was just going to executive produce it. But when she and Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas pitched the project to the network, they asked her why she wasn’t playing the lead character.
“Bob Greenblatt said to me, ‘You play this role, we’ll do it right now.’ This is an amazing role, and it really made me think, okay, this is something that I want to happen,” she said.
Meanwhile, Lopez’s career as an executive producer started with Freeform’s “The Fosters” in 2013. While speaking with Variety, the actress affirmed her commitment to represent a wider range of minorities on television. “The Fosters,” for instance, introduced a lesbian couple who adopted majority of their kids.
“I can speak to a producer’s responsibility, which is to create a compelling story with interesting and diverse characters. It’s important to make sure that the characters are a true reflection of our society. This includes diversity across race and gender – which we’re finally seeing a shift toward in television and film,” she said.
Lopez also executive produced the first season on NBC’s dance reality competition, “World of Dance.” She also served as a judge on the show and will return next season. On top of her television engagements, Lopez is also set to star in the film, “Second Act,” with her real-life best friend, Leah Remini, and “So You Think You Can Dance” judge Vanessa Hudgens.
