  • Jeremy Lin's dream of returning to the NBA has a chance to become a reality
  • The 2019 NBA champion will play for the Golden State Warriors' G League squad
  • Other veterans are also looking for a way back into the NBA through the G League

Jeremy Lin’s dream of making a return to the NBA received a shot in the arm after he reportedly signed with the Golden State Warriors’ G League affiliate in Santa Cruz.

The 32-year-old spent nearly two years in China with the Beijing Ducks after failing to land an NBA contract in free agency.

Lin’s last outing in the NBA was with the Toronto Raptors, with whom he became the first Asian-American player to win an NBA title in 2019.

The California-born cager was desperate to continue his stint in the NBA and admitted that he had hit rock bottom after he was ignored by every NBA franchise during his 2019 free agency.

There was more disappointment on the cards prior to the start of the 2020-21 season when his potential move to join the Warriors’ G League outfit broke down after the paperwork was not submitted to the NBA in time.

According to the Athletic’s Shams Charania, Lin will now get a chance to impress NBA teams when he suits up for the Santa Cruz Warriors.

“Guard Jeremy Lin will sign a deal in the NBA G League and play with the Golden State Warriors’ affiliate, Santa Cruz, as he pursues his NBA return,” Charania wrote on Twitter.

Meanwhile, South China Morning Post reported that Lin has confirmed the deal to his Chinese fans in a post on Weibo while also posting an image of him wearing a Santa Cruz jersey on his Facebook page.

The 2021 G League will take place at the Disney World bubble in Orlando, with opening night expected to happen this coming February and the playoffs wrapping up in early March.

Lin is not the only ex-NBA mainstay expected to play in the G League, with Charania reporting that Michael Beasley and Lance Stephenson have also expressed their intention to strut their wares in the NBA's developmental circuit. The two former Los Angeles Lakers stalwarts are expected to be part of the draft on Monday.
