Jerry Sandusky Scandal: The Second Mile Begins the Process of Closing
Jerry Sandusky's charity for troubled youths, Second Mile, sought permission from county court to dissolve and transfer its' programs to a Texas based youth ministry.
The charity began the process of transferring its programs and millions of dollars of assets to Arrow Child & Family Ministries, a group that operates in Texas, Pennsylvania, Maryland, California and Honduras.
The Second Mile was financially destroyed by allegations that its founder and public face, Sandusky, sexually abused boys that he met through the charity over a period of several years.
The decision to close has been coming for some time now. Since the Sandusky scandal broke, donations have stopped, volunteers have left and children in the region are being referred elsewhere.
Arrow will now step in to continue the many programs for children that Second Mile one ran in the State College Area.
Sandusky's trial is scheduled to begin in June with jury selection set for June 5.
