Jessica Brown Findlay Topless Scene Regret And 6 Other Actors Who Regret Going Nude [PHOTOS]
Some actors do nude scenes to help boost their careers, but Jessica Brown Findlay calls her decision to appear topless early on purely “naïve.”
The 23-year-old actress, who is known to fans of "Downton Abbey" as Lady Sybil Crawley, said she regrets going topless two years ago in her big screen debut as a teen who falls in love with an older man in the British drama "Albatross," E! News reported Tuesday.
“To be honest, 'Albatross' was naivety and not knowing that I could say no,” she said.
In one scene, her character flashes a storekeeper to prove she's mature enough to buy cigarettes.
“I had no idea what was going to happen and thought I was going to be shot from behind … It’s not something I would do again.”
Findlay also has a nude scene in “Labyrinth” -- a two-part TV adaption of Kate Mosse's best-selling historical novel. She insists though this will be her final nude performance, according to Radio Times.
The actress talked about how she prepares for nude film scenes.
“If you’re going to do a nude scene, be honest and natural," she said. "I was drinking pints and eating burgers."
Other stars besides Findlay who say they regret baring it all on screen include:
TAYLOR LAUTNER
The “Twilight” franchise boosted Taylor Lautner’s career into superstardom, but the 21-year-old said he regrets his topless scenes in the supernatural romance.
“One it’s freezing whenever we film, it’s just not fun. Two, it’s uncomfortable … I’m the only person on the set like that and everybody else is wearing clothes.”
KATE WINSLET
Kate Winslet said she regrets the scene in "Titanic" where Rose asks Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) to paint her nude, especially after the film was re-released in 3D last year.
“I’m not going to look. I’ll be in the bar by that point," said the 37-year-old Oscar-winning actress. "I wish I hadn’t shown so much flesh but I was young and I knew I had things to prove.”
MARY-LOUISE PARKER
Mary-Louise Parker told More magazine in 2009 she didn't have a problem stripping as Nancy Botwin in the Showtime television series “Weeds.” Yet, a certain bath tub scene sent the 48-year-old actress over the edge.
“I didn’t think I needed to be naked,” said the star. “I fought with my director about it and now I am bitter. I knew it was going to be on the Internet: ‘Mary-Louise shows off her big nipples.’ I wish I hadn’t done that. I was goaded into it."
NATALIE PORTMAN
It took actress Natalie Portman two nude scenes -- one in “Hotel Chevalier” and another in “Goya’s Ghosts” -- to realize she never wanted to take her clothes off on camera again.
“It was really silly,” Portman, 31, told MTV, in 2008. “I don’t like the misappropriation of stuff, like when you create something as part of a story and then a piece of it ends up on a porn site … That really makes me angry. It’s inevitable and I should know what happens.”
DAVID SPADE
Funnyman David Spade isn’t laughing about his nude scene in the 2010 comedy “Grown Ups” after he didn’t make use of a butt-double. Spade, 48, said co-star and producer, Adam Sandler, wanted him to appear in the buff.
“Adam just came to me that one morning and said, ‘You’re like a guy who’s not used to being around families and you’re sleeping alone, so you just walk out naked and you don’t care.’ It’s the one day I didn’t wear make-up on my butt!”
DAME HELEN MIRREN
Dame Helen Mirren isn’t revealing which earlier roles she has qualms about, but the 67-year-old actress said those decisions weigh heavily on her now.
“I might seem inhibited but believe me, I’m not. I’ve always had a problem doing nudity. In fact, I hated it. It has never been a comfortable thing. I’ve never enjoyed it. It’s always mortifying.”
