Jessica Simpson Weight Gain: Joy Behar Calls Her ‘Fat,’ How She Weighs Up With 15 Other Celebrity Pregnancies [PHOTOS]

Jessica Simpson is being criticized for her immense weight gain, which she said is only 40 pounds, while being pregnant with her first child with fiancé Eric Johnson, as Joy Behar called the 31-year-old soon-to-be mom fat on The View Tuesday.

Remember the the time that Jessica Simpson was criticized because she didn't know the difference between chicken and tuna? That kind of thing is more fun to criticize than the fact that the girl is fat, Joy Behar said.

Most women who are pregnant are not supposed to gain more than 25 pounds. She looks like she gained a lot more than that, Behar continued.

The other women on The View were much more sympathetic than Behar, like Whoopi Goldberg who said she gained more than 90 pounds when she was pregnant with her daughter in comparison to Simpson's 40.

I lost some of it. But some of it I didn't lose. You do what you have to do, Goldberg said.

Sarah Palin also defended Simpson during an appearance on The Today Show, noting those in the limelight have to deal with harsh criticism.

I would have wanted to punch [Jessica's critics] in the neck, Palin said on The Today Show. It's none of anybody else's business how much weight I would gain. This isn't even an issue. Hollywood...is full of itty-bitty people, people [who are] unrealistically tiny.

Palin also noted that Simpson is not the same girl she used to be when filming 2005's Dukes of Hazzard and donning the infamous short-shorts.

That was a different chapter of her life, Palin said. I bet you she was exercising five or six hours a day back in those Daisy Duke days.

Simpson, on the other hand, seems proud of the weight gain that comes as a part of her pregnancy, as she posed nude on the April 2012 cover of Elle magazine.

I'm like 170 pounds and I wanted to pose nude, Simpson said. I try to be like 110 pounds. It's funny to be at your heaviest and feel the most confident. I just take such pride in being a mom! I just love my body more than ever now.
