KEY POINTS

  • Jill Biden has always had a full schedule and it is natural for her to do a lot of work
  • The first lady is not all about appearances and photo-ops but more of a workhorse
  • Biden is driven by the knowledge she has in all areas and the idea that she can make a difference

First Lady Jill Biden is often compared to ex-FLOTUS Melania Trump because of how she hits the ground running, but her former communications director said she has always had a packed schedule.

Many noticed how active Biden has been in playing her role as the first lady. In less than a week since she and President Joe Biden moved into the White House many were already saying she did more than what her predecessor accomplished in four years. Courtney O'Donnell, who served as Biden's communications director, said it's natural for Biden to be this active.

"I can't remember a time when she didn't have a full plate," she told CNN. "For most people, it would be a lot. For her, this is natural."

Trump was very different from Biden in terms of their public sightings and activities. The former first lady waited for months before she moved into the White House. She also remained mysterious and out of sight unlike the current FLOTUS.

"I think Biden is elegant, but she's less of a clotheshorse and more of a workhorse," said Kate Anderson Brower, CNN contributor and author of "First Women: The Grace and Power of America's Modern First Ladies." "This first lady is not all about appearances and photo-ops."

Biden has been promoting care, kindness and unity. Last week, she placed giant hearts on the White House North Lawn for Valentine's Day to build team morale and surprise her husband. She also said earlier that she would focus on military families, cancer research, free community college and education.

Biden is also concerned of the pandemic's effects on women and she feels that she has to meet them. She also knows how to lead the people and complete an assignment. Her gestures demonstrate her boundless energy and mission to make other people feel good.

"It's not a busy-ness for the sake of being busy. She is driven by the knowledge she has in all of the areas and the idea she can make a difference," O'Donnell added.

Meanwhile, Biden will be having an interview with Kelly Clarkson on her show. "The Kelly Clarkson Show" host will be visiting Biden in the White House and their interview will air on Feb. 25.
