Jingle Ball Concert In Miami Canceled Due To Omicron Concerns
The final stop of iHeartRadio's annual Jingle Ball Tour in Florida Live Arena in Miami was called off Sunday night due to the surge of the Omicron variant of COVID-19.
The announcement was made by iHeartRadio on Twitter on Sunday and wrote, "Due to the increased transmission of the new COVID-19 variant and to further minimize any potential risks, as a precautionary measure and for the safety of our staff, talent and guests, we have made the decision to cancel tonight's iHeartRadio Y100 Jingle Ball. Thank you for your understanding. Ticket holders will receive a refund within 48 hours and if they have any issues, they should reach out to their point of purchase."
The concert organizers added a tweet that included information about refunds, "Ticket holders who purchased through Ticketmaster will receive a refund within 3 to 30 days. If you have any issues, you should reach out to your point of purchase."
The Miami stop of the Jingle Ball Tour is the latest live event canceled due to COVID-19. The spike in COVID-19 infection rates also resulted in the cancelation of Broadway shows last week.
Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion and the Jonas Brothers previously pulled out of the Jingle Ball concerts after members of their teams were exposed to the virus. Doja Cat herself announced her positive test result and pulled out of her appearances in Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Atlanta and Miami.
Before that, Lil Nas X and Coldplay withdrew from their scheduled performances in Capital FM’s 2021 Jingle Bell Ball lineup in London after members of their crews tested positive for the virus.
Cases of COVID-19 in the U.S. surged due to Delta and Omicron variants. The Omicron variant has been identified in at least 45 states, CNN reported.
In New York City, COVID-19 cases more than doubled in the past week although the number of hospitalizations remained the same throughout the week with a slight increase on the weekend, the outlet reported.
"It's going to take over," top infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci said regarding the Omicron variant on CNN's "State of the Union" on Sunday. He also urged Americans to get vaccinated and get their booster shots. "...and be prudent in everything else you do: When you travel in your indoor settings that are congregated, wear a mask," he added.
