Joe Russo believes that everyone will be blown away by Tom Holland’s performance in the upcoming movie “Cherry.”

Speaking in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the 48-year-old filmmaker said that people will get to see the depth and versatility of Holland in the upcoming film. He further stated that he is on the list of people ready to start the award campaign for the “Spiderman: Homecoming” star.

Russo also said that Holland is a phenomenally talented actor.

“Count me on the list of folks who are ready to start the awards campaign today. I think everyone will be blown away when they get a chance to see the depth and versatility he brings to ‘Cherry’. He is a generationally talented actor,” Joe told the media outlet.

The movie is based on the book and life of Nicholas “Nico” Walker. His debut novel “Cherry” gives an in-depth look at crime and addiction as well as the severity of the effects of war. In particular, the Iraq War, which he considers the most poignant aspect of his semi-autobiography.

In April, Joe told Collider that Holland’s performance in the upcoming crime-drama is so amazing that it would warrant recognition from the Academy Awards. He also explained that the “Spider-Man: Far From Home” star shredded himself physically and emotionally for the project.

“I think he is exceptional in the movie, honestly. I think it is an Oscar-worthy performance out of him. He is shredding himself, physically and emotionally. He is playing a very complicated individual who is a drug addict and suffering from PTSD and is a bank robber,” Collider quoted Joe, as saying.

“Cherry” would be the Russo Brothers’ first movie since 2019’s blockbuster “Avengers: Endgame.” The movie broke many records during its run and is now the highest-grossing film of all time.

Meanwhile, the dynamic duo will also be making a mini-series entitled “Citadel” with Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra-Jonas in lead roles.

In the same interview with ET, Joe also opened up about the sequel to Netflix’s blockbuster hit “Extraction.” The filmmaker revealed that he has already started writing the story for the second film.

“I started writing the sequel three weeks ago. It is a great character to write for, with a fantastic performance from Hemsworth. So it makes my job easier. I think the mission is to up the scale on this one, both emotionally and physically,” Joe said.
