Joel McHale And Jim Rash Have Mini ‘Community’ Reunion At 2017 People’s Choice Awards
With CBS airing the 2017 People’s Choice Awards, the network didn’t miss an opportunity to plug one of its shows and take a shot at a rival network.
With actor Joel McHale hosting the show live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles Wednesday night, the ceremony opened with a skit taking place in McHale’s CBS show “The Great Indoors.” Interacting with the cast, McHale was then joined by his “Community” co-star, Jim Rash.
Rash and McHale made sure to take a shot at NBC when McHale said he and Rash worked together on “Community.” McHale’s “Great Indoors” co-stars were confused when he mentioned the show’s title and even more confused when Rash said the show aired on NBC, acting as if they never heard of the network. It wasn’t until Rash said the show also aired on Yahoo Screen that the actors knew what he was talking about.
McHale and Rash both stared in “Community” for all six seasons as Jeff Winger and Craig Pelton, respectively. Originally on NBC, the series premiered in 2009 and was met with rave reviews. After being renewed for a third season, the series began having problems, starting with its removal from NBC’s mid-season schedule two months after its third season premiere.
The show ran for two more seasons on NBC before being canceled in 2014. Following its cancelation, Yahoo! announced it ordered a 13-episode sixth season which would stream on Yahoo Screen. Following the sixth season, the primary cast’s contracts expired, and Yahoo’s streaming service was shut down.
The 2017 People’s Choice Awards airs live on CBS at 9 p.m. EST. Check out the full list of nominees HERE and find out how to tune in online and on TV HERE.
