John Abraham Taken into Custody, Likely to be Sent to Jail
Bollywood actor John Abraham was taken into custody after his bail plea was rejected by a sessions court in Mumbai Friday in a 2006 rash driving case.
On April 8, 2006, the actor rammed his superbike into a bicycle, injuring two youngsters - Shyam Kasbe (22) and Tanmay Majhi (19) - near the Khar Danda area of Mumbai.
In October 2010, the Bandra Metropolitan Magistrate Court sentenced the actor to 15 days imprisonment on charges of rash and negligent driving. Also the court imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 on the 39-year-old actor.
Despite of all the suffering from the injuries due to the accident that took place, John had made efforts to take the two injured youngsters to the hospital. Considering that the court ordered a simple imprisonment to him.
Consequently, the actor filed an appeal in the sessions court against the conviction and obtained bail at that time.
His appeal stated that the Judge has misconstrued and has, without applying the principles relating to the acts of rashness and criminal negligence, convicted the applicant (Abraham).
However, the court dismissed John Abraham's plea Friday. The actor had sought three days time to surrender.
Meanwhile, the actor's lawyer confirmed that they were moving to the High Court against the order of the sessions court.
