Johnny Depp may have lost his libel case against The Sun, but his fans and friends continue to stand by him. Some of them were very unhappy with the verdict and even called out the judge for allegedly showing "bias."
Depp didn't get the justice he deserved with his libel case against The Sun, according to his supporters. Many of them criticized Justice Andrew Nicol on social media. Meanwhile, one of Depp’s friends insisted that he is not a wife beater.
"I don’t want any negative comments — but take it from someone who actually knows the man; Johnny Depp is no wife beater. #rosshalfin #johnnydepp," rock and roll photographer Ross Halfin wrote in the caption of his photo with Depp that he shared on Instagram.
The post received support from others who believe that Depp is innocent.
"I met him last year and he was such a humble and down to Earth human. I smile every single time I think about that interaction and I wish could revisit that day I wouldn't say that if he was bad," one shared while recalling his encounter with Depp.
"Here’s to being on the right side of justice #justiceforjohnnydepp ain’t no justice goin on atm but we aint gon ever stop fighting," another wrote.
Aside from defending Depp, many of his fans slammed the judge for allegedly having “bias" during the trial.
"That judge was bias!!! The British justice system has been corrupted!!!" one wrote on Twitter.
"I really hope Johnny Depp and his legal team keep fighting this and that that judge loses his job for showing such obvious bias in his ruling," another added.
"Bulls--t, the judge was exposed with his bias. Even Amber's parents side with Depp, and they know her more than us. That should tell you something," a different netizen wrote.
"The man fell for the con and clearly had a bias against depp's life and it shows from his verdict. It is sad to see how jealous these old men get about Depp including reporters just because, we see it all the time sadly. The judge is friends with Amber's lawyer as well so yea," @AchakpoM commented.
Depp's ex-wife Amber Heard alleged that he abused her in 14 different instances and the judge believed that he did in 12 instances, deeming the tabloid's "wife-beater" claim "substantially true."
"The Claimant has not succeeded in his action for libel. Although he has proved the necessary elements of his cause of action in libel, the Defendants have shown that what they published in the meaning which I have held the words to bear was substantially true," the judge was quoted by Deadline, as saying.
Jenny Afia of Schillings, the law firm that represented Depp, found the verdict "perverse as it is bewildering" because the judge only relied on Heard’s testimony and disregarded the counter-evidence from several witnesses that could have completely undermined the allegations against Depp point by point.
"All of this was overlooked. The judgment is so flawed that it would be ridiculous for Mr Depp not to appeal this decision," she was quoted by Sky News, as saying.
