Johnny Depp was very creative when he accepted his most recent award from a Polish film festival.
Depp added another trophy to his collection after he accepted an award from EnergaCamerimage film festival. The "Pirates of the Caribbean" star posed from behind bars to accept the acting recognition. The award was for the actor's unique visual sensitivity for his film "Minamata."
The film festival is dedicated to "the art of cinematography and its creators." The award-giving body shared a snap of Depp from behind bars on Twitter. In the picture, Depp is seen holding onto his award in one hand while his other hand is pointing to it. He didn't collect the award in person due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, he accepted it in the Bahamas.
"And greetings from Johnny Depp from the Bahamas! Festival's Strategic Sponsor is @EnergaSA #EnergaCAMERIMAGE #Energa #Camerimage2020 #Camerimage #online," the caption read.
The award comes weeks after Depp lost his libel case against The Sun. The "Edward Scissorhands" star sued the British tabloid for calling him a "wife-beater" following his ex-wife Amber Heard's allegations that he was violent and abusive during their marriage.
After he lost the case, Warner Bros. asked Depp to resign from the "Fantastic Beasts” franchise. So, Depp's supporters were happy for his most recent award.
"Great decision! ... and actually a GREAT timing since WB decided to fall for the false allegations after all. It's wonderful he got some love from the industry at this challenging-for-his-career time! I really do hope ‘Minimata’ gets released in Poland. #JohnnyDepp," one commented.
"Wow! congratulations to #JohnnyDepp for this award more than deserved. And thank you @CamerimageFest for reminding us that cinema is art," a second user added.
"Thank you so much for honoring Johnny Depp for his talent and genius, and for standing by him at this time!!!" a third user wrote.
"A well deserved award. And I hope Johnny is enjoying the Bahamas. Well chosen #Cameraimagefest," @raeknight added.
Meanwhile, Depp's fans continue to fight for his justice. They slammed Warner Bros. for its decision to fire him from "Fantastic Beasts" and urged the studio to drop Heard from the "Aquaman" franchise following her admission in a leaked recording that she hit Depp, too. They also criticized the judge who gave the verdict in his libel case against The Sun for allegedly showing bias.
